What I'm Thankful For
El, Founder of BHB Coffee
As we step into this reflective season, I've been really thinking what I'm thankful for, and the answer is simple: you.
Whether you're a longtime guest, a partner, a vendor, or someone who's just found us recently, your support has meant the world. Every bit of praise lifts us up. Every bit of feedback pushes us to grow. And that growth brings something equally important: responsibility.
Growth Means Responsibility
As BHB grows, so does our responsibility to our guests, our team, our planet, and our community.
These aren't separate things. They're deeply connected, and they guide everything we do.
Our Commitment to You
- No More Extra Charges for Milk Alternatives
Starting November 5, we're partnering with NuMilk to eliminate surcharges on plant-based milks.
Whether you choose oat, almond, or whole milk, your choice will never cost extra.
Because good coffee should be accessible, and dietary preferences shouldn't come with a penalty.
-
Bring the Milk Home
In early December, you will be able to purchase NuMilk's fresh oat + almond milk directly from our shops.
Same quality, more convenience—and at an affordable price.
Our Commitment to the Planet
Our partnership with NuMilk isn't just about great milk, it's about reducing waste.
Because we make our own plant-based milks in-house, we're reducing packaging waste from cartons and bottles.
Thousands of drinks. Thousands of cartons saved. It all adds up.
Small changes = big impact.
Our Commitment to Our Team
Our team is everything: Without them, BHB is just an idea. With them, it's a thriving, welcoming space.
Here's what we've done so far:
- 401(k) program with employer matching
- Health insurance subsidies
- Barista wage: $17/hr starting → up to $20/hr after training (~3 months)
We are not perfect, and we do have more work to do. But we are committed to building BHB into a place where our people feel valued, supported, and secure.
Our Commitment to the Community
And a Very Honest Ask. This part is the most important—and the hardest to write.
We're living through tough times. Groceries cost more, rent keeps going up, and too many of our neighbors are struggling just to meet basic needs. So here's what we're doing—and how you can help.
If You Need Help...
Starting this month—and continuing every Tuesday and Friday—we’re offering: A Free drip coffee + sandwich for anyone who shows a SNAP benefits card. Available after 12pm, while supplies last. Just show your card. We'll take care of you. Because this is community taking care of community.
If You Can Help...
If you're in a position to help, we're collecting non-perishable food donations at all locations. All donations go directly to Families Forward, an incredible local organization helping families in crisis across Orange County.
Most needed items:
- Canned soup & veggies
- Pasta & rice
- Peanut butter & cereal
Why It Matters
Maybe you wonder why a coffee shop is getting involved in food insecurity. The answer is simple: Because we can. And because we should. We don't believe in separating "business" from "community." Our growth has only been possible because of you. And now, it’s our turn to give back—however we can. Maybe one sandwich won't fix the problems we face. But it might be the one thing that helps someone get through the day.
That, to us, is reason enough.
How You Can Help Right Now
✔️ Bring canned goods to any BHB Coffee shop during open hours
✔️ Share this post with someone who may need a meal
✔️ Offer acts of kindness to those with whom you interact on a day-to-day basis. It goes further than you think.
Thank You
Thank you for supporting us.
Thank you for being there.
Thank you for helping us grow into something more than a simple coffee shop.
As we enter this season of gratitude, I'm asking all of us to take it one step further:
Let that gratitude turn into action.
Let's build the kind of community where no one has to choose between groceries and coffee. Where kindness is rule and not an exception.
With deep gratitude and hope,
El
