Every Cup of Coffee Has a Story
Laurina beans are a naturally occurring low-caffeinated coffee. This notoriously difficult to grow varietal was discovered in the 18th century in Africa. Its lack of caffeine, a natural pest deterrent, made Laurina more susceptible to insect damage. This varietal almost disappeared, but in recent years, it has resurged to become a popular alternative to decaffeinated coffee.
This microlot comes from the Frijanes area of Guatemala. Compared to the Laurina beans we had in the past, this bean is brighter, with notes of apple and lemon. The high elevation and volcanic soils of the region give this bean a soft and delicate cup profile.
