Yirgacheffe is the name most coffee people learn first, and Kochere is one of the reasons why. Our Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Kochere Natural is a Grade 1 lot from the Boledu washing station, grown between 1,900 and 2,250 meters on smallholder plots in the southern highlands, where Ethiopia’s native heirloom varieties still grow the way they have for generations.

Boysenberry, orange blossom, and cocoa rise out of the cup first. It drinks like a bowl of berry cereal, sweet and fruit-forward, with a gentle orange acidity, a soft, milky body, and a floral finish that lingers after the last sip. Whole cherries are dried slowly on raised beds, which is where all that berry sweetness comes from. We roast it light to keep the fruit bright and the florals intact.

Every Cup Has A Story

More than 8,500 smallholder farmers in Kochere grow this coffee on family plots handed down through generations. Coffee shares the land with avocado, enset, and soybeans, so every family plot feeds a household as well as a harvest, and a bad coffee year doesn’t mean an empty table.

The Boledu washing station sits at the center of that community. It trains farmers, shares profits with them, and pays premiums for the best lots, so better picking and better care earn better money. With 180 drying beds, Boledu handles serious volume without losing track of the details. It honors tradition while also experimenting with anaerobic and cold-washed coffees alongside classic naturals, and its work has earned Cup of Excellence recognition.

BHB Notes

This is the Ethiopian natural we’d hand to someone who thinks they don’t like fruity coffee. It’s berry-sweet and floral without ever tipping into funk, and the cocoa underneath keeps it grounded. Brew it as a pour over and let it cool a little; the orange blossom opens up as it does. Limited lot.
